P7 Bee Safe Workshops
P7 headed off to Woodford Hall in Armagh to complete some workshops on fire safety, kitchen safety, online safety, road safety and bus safety. It was a very interesting and informative hour and a half.
Some of the main learning points include:
Fire Service
- bin your old square adaptors and replace with safer extension leads
- push plugs in fully so they don’t arc
- switch off ALL electrical appliances before you go to bed (except fridge-freezer
- check your fire alarms weekly and replace batteries annually
Kitchen Safety
- keep medicines and washing tablets/ pods out of reach of children
- keep kitchen appliances and their cables pushed back against walk
- keep hot drinks high enough so babies and young children can’t reach them
Community Police
- When you reach the age of 10, you will be treated like an adult and can be arrested
- don’t speak to any strangers online
- a stranger is someone you don’t know
- if under 18, it is a criminal offence to pose and take a photo in a state of undress, share the photo and add bits to it
- catfishing is pretending to be someone you are not and is an offence when used to harm or deceive someone
Road Safety
- you are a VIP so always wear a cycle helmet even in your own yard
- wear hi-viz when walking or cycling on the roadswalk on the right side of the road and cycle on the left
Bus Safety
- never cross the road in front of or behind a bus
- stand well back from the kerb at the bus stop (the bus will move across the edge of the kerb as it pulls in)
- put your seat belt on and stay in your seat
- ring the stop bell only once
- stand well back from the kerb as the bus moves off
