Primary One: Friday 24th April 2020

Mental Maths:  We are learning to say 1 more than or 1 less than any number up to 10.

  • Set out your digit cards in order.
  • Big person to ask you to turn over number that is one less than….one more than… until all turned.
  • Can you now make the big person do all the work and you ask the questions [this is quite tricky but have a go!

Numeracy: Today we are learning to use 2p coins in shopping tasks.

Show your child how 2p is the same value at 2 x 1p coins.  When we use 2ps we tap the coin twice quickly  and count 1,2.[ Some children will count the coins individually and not count the value eg for 4 two pence coins they will say 4p.  Practice tapping each coin twice and counting on,    1,2    3,4   5,6    7,8.  – 8p

Set out 2 x 2p coins and count together – 1,2,          3,4   makes  4p [ make sure you say “p”]

  • Use the pictures from yesterday – apple 4p, windmill 6p, horse 8p and ask your child to pay for the item using 2p coins.
  • Challenge – set out picture for balloon and ask child to pay. Will they recognise that they need to use a 2p AND a 1p?

Phonics: dictation  - use whiteboards

  • I am hot.
  • I got a hat.
  • It is a cot.

Literacy: We are learning to re-structure  a sentence.

Ask a big person to write these words at the top of a page in your literacy book:

cow     Jack   big   .     a    had

Read the words carefully and make a sentence. Now write it in your book and draw a picture.

TOPIC WORK: have you remembered to check your seeds for water?

Numeracy: We can give change to 10p.

  • Find the worksheet “Find the Change” and complete.
  • Think about what type of sums these are. Is your answer going to get bigger or smaller?
  • Remember to add “p” to your answer!

Phonics: Dictation on whiteboards

  • Can you come to my house today?
  • Tom can find lots of bugs in the garden.

Literacy: Independent writing in writing books

Title: My Favourite Part of Jack and the Beanstalk [write at the top of your work]

  • Think about your favourite part of the story. What happens and why. Who is involved? Why do you like it?
    • Get out your High 5 and remember all the important parts of a sentence.
    • Write 3-4 sentences to tell what your favourite part is adding lots of details so you don’t send the “big person” asleep! [zzzzzz] Think about different ways to open your sentences.
    • Remember who, what, where, when, why.
    • THEN…. When you have written 3-4 sentences EDIT your work. Check it carefully to see if you have shown where one sentence ends and another begins. You know then to start your new sentence with a Capital letter don’t you?
  • [I would love to see some of your work P2]
