Investigation: How old are the trees in Fairgreen?
The boys and girls spent a wonderful morning measuring the girth of trees and using a formula to calculate their approximate age. First we measured some trees around the school and after break we headed up to Fairgreen. We calculated that some of the large trees could be between 70 and 90 years old. There was one particular tree that could be over 120 years old! Finally, we tried out a method for estimating the height of a tree.
